What's new in the month of May?

Kelderhof has been a hive of activity in recent months and shows no signs of slowing down. This is thanks to the marked increase in building activity on site as well as extensive fine tuning of the professional team involved behind the scenes.

New marketing strategies are being brought into place, including the major involvement of a prominent real estate agency, Harcourts Platinum, which is the feature of this month's newsletter. As of the 1st of May 2011, Harcourts will be operating as the Resident Agent at Kelderhof. Please drop in at the Kelderhof Sales Office to meet the Harcourts team and enquire about the new house products on offer.

Everyone is raring to go after a long, lovely Easter period – a much deserved break for most. Read on for the Jéan's Estate Manager's Report as well as an interview with Steve Caradoc-Davies, principal of Harcourts Platinum.

Hat's off to our fire fighters!

It's almost every little boy's dream to be a fireman! But, as we grow up, most of us realize that it is hard, sweaty, thankless work and, thus, abandon our boyhood dream.

For those of you who do not live in the Hottentots Holland area, we had some horrific fires on the Helderberg a few weekends ago. More than half of the Helderberg Nature Reserve was destroyed and ten homes and a guest house in Somerset West were gutted. I took a drive up to the affected area on Sunday afternoon to look at the devastation and to take some cold drinks to those brave souls that risked their lives for two and a half days to bring the fires under control.

I had the privilege earlier this month to meet some of our local fire fighters when we had a small veld fire here at Kelderhof. It started, according to eyewitnesses, when the goods train passed by at around 4pm on the 4th of April. A spark must have ignited the dry grass next to the tracks at Ridgemore Farm, to the South-East of Kelderhof. As the wind was howling that day, the fire quickly spread toward our boundary. I called the local fire department and I was pleasantly surprised when they were on site within ten minutes. They made short work of the blaze and stopped it from spreading any further than a small section between Hastings Street and our South-East fence.

So please, join me in saluting those brave and dedicated men and women that go to battle on fires on our behalf.

Interview with member of Professional Team:
Harcourts – Steve Caradoc-Davies

Steve Caradoc-Davies

Principal of the local Harcourts Platinum office, Steve Caradoc-Davies, is also a Director of Harcourts Africa, and attributes a large portion of his success to the benefits of belonging to the Harcourts Group.

At a local level, Steve Caradoc-Davies has been involved in the real estate industry since 1989 and has managed and owned the business since 1997. In recent years, Harcourts Platinum has grown from strength to strength, and was placed in the Top 5 Harcourts offices nationally, out of group of over 120 offices.

Harcourts chose to become involved with Kelderhof as it is a unique Estate, with a developer willing to create new products to address the current market demand. Teamed with the strength of Harcourts in the area, it was an irresistible opportunity.

Steve believes the village aesthetic and Lifestyle Centre to be constructed on the Central Circle in the coming months set Kelderhof apart. Over and above this, the Estate is affordable – making it different from similar Estates.

The vineyard setting is the most appealing aspect of Kelderhof in Steve's opinion, along with the country feel of an Estate so deceptively close to surrounding towns and cities. The style of houses, Steve feels, also contribute to the harmony and experience of the Estate.
